#vowentinesday

Christine Luby (living in CA) and Nick Shalek (living in NY) were married smack dab in the middle at Salvage One in west Chicago on Valentine's Day. The couple charmingly dubbed it "Vowentine’s Day," which played beautifully into their festive decor. This wedding was one for the books; rockin' tunes with the Larry King Orchestra, fab cuisine from Blue Plate Catering, and the fanciest floral by The Flower Firm. Christine, co-founder of Pinrose perfumes, launched a personal perfume called "Lovebug" on her wedding day and gifted each guest a luxury candle with the signature scent. The couple wanted to sprinkle in some of their fun-loving personalities so we added an original neon heart and an outdoor photo shoot with serape blankets :). It was a true pleasure being a part of this memorable weekend with Nick, Christine and their families, and we wish them a happy anniversary and many more to come!

Andon + Will's Winter Wedding at Salvage One

After some dating, planning and trips across the pond, Andon (a school teacher in south Chicago) and Will (a risk management professional originally from the UK) decided to exchange vows in Chicago at the eclectic and charming Salvage One. There was a blanket of snow outside, and inside the warehouse was transformed into a classic and comfortable evening affair. Andon added her style with sweet and neutral details and Will brought charm with his warm words of welcome and his swift dance moves. They shared their love, commitment and celebration with their dearest family and closest friends, and it was a true honor to be a part of. Wishing endless years of love and laughter to such a beautiful couple!    Photos by David Lai Photography.

It Takes a Village

The most precious Gerber baby "crashed" his own baby shower by making his entrance almost four weeks early! We celebrated the guest of honor by renting the gorgeous DL Loft in Lakeview, and stocked the bar full with Bloody Marys and mimosas, while we enjoyed the unseasonably warm November weather. We're glad you're here, William Gerber!

holidays got us all:

Winter in Chicago is a magical (and cold, yes, very cold) time, and there are countless ways to be sure you make the most of it. Here are just a few things we are loving this season in the Second City:

Shopping:

HOLIDAY RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR | HOLIDOSE 2015 | ONE OF A KIND SHOW & SALE

You won't find old ladies with tables of cottonball snowmen at these craft fairs. Instead, they are chalk full of eclectic, hand-made arts and goods from around the US. Great for holiday shopping and giving gifts with a story (plus it's the perfect way to shop small)!

Watching:

THIS DECEMBER AT THE LOGAN

This month, the Logan Theater is showcasing Christmas movies on their big screen (also rumored to be mixing up some fab holiday cocktails at the bar). Check the link for the full schedule. Bring on the nostalgia!

THE NUTCRACKER | A CHRISTMAS CAROL

It just wouldn't be Christmas without watching the rat king in tights dance on stage to classical music. The Joffrey Theatre is keeping the tradition alive by performing the Nutcracker at the Auditorium Theatre through December 27. Also, the Goodman Theatre downtown Chicago is performing A Christmas Carol, so don't miss out on your yearly dose of Scrooge!

Going:

ZOOLIGHTS

Lincoln Park Zoo. Christmas lights. Ice sculptures. Spiced wine. Need we say more?

ICE SKATING

The very brand new skating ribbon at Maggie Daley Park is the perfect place to show off your skating skillz and take in the cityscape. If you're single, it's the place to mingle, and maybe start your own love story. (Try this line as you glide past a cutie - "How much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice?")

CHRISTKINDLMARKET

Pile on the layers and head downtown to check out the outdoor German Christmas Festival - Christkindlmarket. You can't go wrong with steins of imported beer, German roasted almonds, and a room filled with candy from across the world. And again - another great way to shop small!

GIVING:

ONE WARM COAT

Everyone has that neglected coat that's been in the back of your closet for years. Donate it! Check out any of the donation locations in Chicago. Hoard less and help keep our city warm!

GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY

There's no better way to give back to the city you love than by helping families in need. The Greater Chicago Food Depository helps ensure the people of Chicago have food to eat and they're always accepting; monetary donations, volunteers, or help with a food drive

Cheers to a happy and safe winter full of JOY!
